SEO & Discoverability

Discovery is key for driving ongoing sales and usage after the initial marketing activity. Internet search engines are an important part of this and we have optimised our website to feature highly in web search engine results (often above sites such as Amazon).

We submit eBooks to Google for Google Books (with a limited preview allowed), Google Play (the eBook store) and Google Scholar. We also ensure your book is available with ‘Search Inside’ on Amazon. When we agree on the book title and write the marketing blurb we factor in carefully targeted keywords and search terms likely to be used to find the book. See also How to Maximise your Readership

Your book will be published in print and – if we have the rights – in electronic eBook format as well. For both print and electronic publishing we sell directly to customers from our US and UK offices and through a worldwide network of international and local vendors. Our sales are split between the Americas, the Asia Pacific region, Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

If the book is original scholarship the official online version of your book will be hosted on Elgaronline. You will be provided with the web link to your book on Elgaronline and a DOI. The DOI is another version of the web link that is increasingly used for citation linking to book and journal articles, it has the advantage of remaining unchanged even if the publisher moves to a different URL naming convention. Please link to this DOI when listing your publication(s) on institutional web pages and external sites such as ResearchGate. Elgaronline provides multiuser access and allows chapters to be downloaded and printed. This means the book can be used easily in electronic course packs.

Increasing citations

The number of citations a book receives is becoming an increasingly important metric. We include books in Google Scholar, the SCOPUS Citation Index and also the Clarivate Analytics’ Book Citation Index, part of the Web of Science Core Collection and the largest citation database available. This will increase the discoverability of Elgar books and ensure that citations to your work are fully recognised. These indexes are used by researchers to identify books that have been well cited in a given topic, and linking to the book can further increase usage. To stimulate this virtuous circle of citation and usage we encourage you and chapter authors to cite the book in your journal articles.

Discovery Through Library Search and Discovery Tools

We send full text metadata for our eBooks to a number of companies that offer search tools for libraries. This allows them to index our books at chapter level and improves discovery in the library’s catalogue, often alongside journal articles. We also provide the metadata to libraries to ensure that they can link through link-resolving technology to books hosted on Elgaronline. More details on our search and discovery partners can be found here.
